Simulation of soil collapse based on the local radial basis function collocation method
Abstract
This study presents the first application of the local radial basis function collocation method (LRBFCM) to soil collapse analysis. To address the instability associated with large deformations and derivative calculations in the LRBFCM, fictitious background nodes are introduced. The Drucker-Prager elastoplastic constitutive model is employed for cohesionless soil. The efficiency of the LRBFCM is validated through comparisons with the aluminum rod collapse experiment and the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH). The entire process of soil collapse is investigated under various initial aspect ratios, and the relationship between the initial aspect ratio and the collapse distance is studied. The results demonstrate that the collapse morphology and repose angle predicted by the LRBFCM are close to the experimental measurements.
